ABOUT THE PROVIDER
The Edinburgh Whisky Academy is a Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA)-Approved centre of learning for whisky. EWA was specifically created to fill a vital gap in scotch whisky education.
Established in 2015 by Kirsty McKerrow. The family run company has whisky production rooted in its history – their forefathers started Mackinlay’s in 1815 and their father, Neil McKerrow, is a former CEO of Glenmorangie, and was hugely influential in the creation of the first cask finish whiskies, revolutionising the whisky industry.
Disappointed at the lack of credible whisky education offerings while working as a brand ambassador, Kirsty sought to correct this. The industry has long acknowledged that there is a need for relevant, quality and certifiable education - not just for consumers, but also for those in the industry. The Academy was created in direct response to this need.
Kirsty, like many others, had a wealth of experience from working in the industry. But she also struggled to find a respected and brand-neutral source of education from which to embed, enhance and certify her understanding and skillset. This is a mission that she and the rest of the team at the Academy pursue today.
Today, the Academy offers five qualifications across two tiers both as online and in-person study options.
